Huawei's Innovative Sound Engineering Set to Reshape In-Car Audio

Huawei is making waves in the automotive industry with its innovative approach to sound engineering. Led by Lars Goller, the company's Chief Automotive Sound & Acoustics Advisor, Huawei is developing a 'master-tuning method' that promises to revolutionize in-car audio experiences.

At the heart of this innovation is Huawei's Shanghai Acoustics R&D Centre, which employs cloud computing to process vast amounts of acoustic data and run complex simulations. This approach allows for real-time adjustments based on various factors, including psychoacoustic principles and instantaneous DSP adjustments.

The centre boasts three testing environments, generating enormous volumes of measurement data. This data is processed using cloud computing infrastructure, which would overwhelm local processing capabilities. Huawei's Ascend Cloud Platform, positioned as a global AI infrastructure alternative, is particularly gaining traction in the Chinese market, including applications in intelligent and autonomous vehicles.

Huawei's investment in research and development is substantial. In 2024, the company reported spending CNY 179.7 billion (approximately £20 billion / €23.4 billion) on R&D, with over 113,000 R&D employees. This commitment has enabled Huawei to supply solutions to over twenty automakers, covering driver assistance, cockpit and control systems, and acoustics.

Huawei's approach to automotive audio engineering, led by Lars Goller, challenges the historical dominance of European brands. With its advanced 'master-tuning method', cloud computing infrastructure, and substantial R&D investment, Huawei is poised to reshape the in-car audio experience and solidify its position as a key player in the automotive industry.
