Illuminating the Sunset Boulevard Evening
New 3D Anamorphic Digital Billboard Enhances Sunset Strip
West Hollywood, CA - A new digital billboard, located at the busiest intersection on Sunset Boulevard, is set to revolutionize the advertising and arts landscape on the famous Sunset Strip. The billboard, a collaboration between The Now and Orange Barrel Media (OBM), boasts a unique 3D anamorphic design that promises to captivate viewers with its striking visuals.
The billboard, going live in April 2025, is a cube-like LED video project with a total of 2,500 square feet. It features a main face of approximately 19x110 feet with a 90-degree corner, and the underside displays measure 13x100 feet. The billboard's underside displays are a rarity in the industry, featuring louver-less faces, which help the project stand out due to its unique design and features.
The digital billboard offers opportunities for artists and advertisers to explore the use of 3D motion media on this innovative technology. All displays feature 6mm pixel spacing for crisp, clear imagery, and the billboard's unique design ensures a seamless viewing experience, even around the corner.
The billboard is part of a public initiative that commissions and displays video art, animation, and photography with an emphasis on collaborations with Los Angeles-based artists. The ongoing content mix of The Now includes Art on Sunset public arts programming, a public initiative organized by OBM in partnership with the City of West Hollywood.
The digital billboard's 3D anamorphic illusion creates a striking visual effect on the Sunset Strip, making it the first and, currently, only 3D anamorphic display on The Strip. Director of special projects at Daktronics, Steve Bayer, is proud of the team for completing the project with engineering challenges, particularly maintaining the 6mm pixel spacing around the corner of the display.
With over 2 million weekly impressions, the digital billboard activates the public realm with memorable ad campaigns and impactful curated art projects. The billboard is co-owned by OBM and The Now, operated by OBM, and consulting services are provided by Consumer Experience Group (CEG).
While specific technical details such as screen resolution, dimensions, or exact hardware/software used are not publicly available, contacting Orange Barrel Media or The Now directly would provide more exact technical features for those interested. The billboard's exceptional anamorphic 3D artistic design and marketing use are the main highlights of this innovative project on the Sunset Strip.
