Immersive Deadpool VR Experience: Brutal combats, complex swordplay, and obscure villains from the comic book realm
Revamped Review:
Get ready to slash, shoot, and sarcastically jab your way through the Marvel multiverse with Marvel's Deadpool VR, exclusively on Meta Quest 3!
I was fortunate enough to get a sneak peek at this upcoming VR adventure, and let me tell you, it's a wild ride. Developed by Twisted Pixel, and featuring the sultry voice of Neil Patrick Harris as the Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool VR sets itself apart from other superhero titles in both style and gameplay.
As expected, the game boasts a vibrant, comic-inspired cell-shading aesthetic, mercifully shaking off the often monotonous realism that permeates the VR gaming landscape. But what truly sets Deadpool VR apart is its original story taking place in the Mojoverse, where Deadpool foolishly signs a contract with "Hip-Hop Satan," Mojo, without reading the fine print. This decision, as one could imagine, leads to Deadpool encountering a diverse array of Marvel foes, iconic and otherwise.
One aspect of the game I'm particularly stoked about is the combat system. Deadpool VR seamlessly blends ranged and melee gameplay, allowing players to juggle enemies with explosive bullets, dismember them with swords, and perform satisfying executions. The swords, in particular, feel a bit finicky, but I'm optimistic that Twisted Pixel will smooth out those kinks before launch.
When not hacking and slashing your way through hordes of enemies, Deadpool VR offers fluid parkour movement, enabling players to run, leap, and bound through environments with speed and finesse. I spotted a plethora of comic book collectibles and secret doors during my brief playthrough, hinting at potential replayability and secret levels.
The humor in Deadpool VR is, of course, abundant and delightfully crass. Deadpool consistently mocks the fourth wall, delivering one-liners that are as hilarious as they are offensive. Neil Patrick Harris brings a unique flavor to the character, and I can't help but appreciate the bold decision to distance the VR game from Ryan Reynolds' portrayal.
Just a word of caution, Deadpool VR may disappoint fans who don't own a Meta Quest 3 or Quest 3S headset. But for those of you fortunate enough to have one, be prepared for a unique, action-packed VR experience that will have you laughing and slashing your way through the Marvel multiverse.
Marvel's Deadpool VR is slated for release in late 2025, so keep your eyes peeled for more details when Meta Connect 2025 rolls around this fall. There's no word yet on pricing or the campaign length, but whoever said life was fair?
Engaging with a fluid blend of gadgets and technology, Deadpool VR showcases an entertainment-focused combat system that allows players to indulge in various melee and ranged fights, using swords and guns, respectively. The vibrant, cell-shaded graphics of this Marvel-themed VR adventure promise an immersive and humorous gaming experience on Meta Quest 3.
