Increased internet speeds in Khabarovsk region accomplished using Russian technology
Megafon Launches Domestic 4G Trunk Line in Khabarovsk Region
Megafon, a leading telecommunications company in Russia, has made a significant stride in the Khabarovsk region with the launch of a new communication line connecting Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk-on-Amur. This 400-kilometer trunk line, using exclusively Russian Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) multiplexers, marks the first infrastructure project at this scale where MegaFon has deployed entirely domestic equipment [1][3].
The project, carried out in collaboration with T8 specialists, is particularly interesting from a technical standpoint. The complexity lies in the heterogeneous structure of the cable route, including fibers of different types. Standard solutions were not suitable for the project, so unique calculations of the DWDM system's parameters and its components were conducted [1]. This approach allowed for precise adaptation of the equipment to the route conditions.
The new line provides a data transmission speed of 100 Gbit/s, a significant leap from the previous generation networks that Megafon is migrating towards the LTE standard [1][3]. This move is part of Megafon's leadership in the 4G transformation in the Khabarovsk region.
Olga Yanchevskaya, Deputy General Director of T8 for Commerce, added comments about the project. For T8, as developers and manufacturers, the project is not just a challenge, but a direct request from the industry for relevant solutions that can ensure the stability and scalability of modern network infrastructure [1][3]. T8's participation in the project is an important step in the large-scale application of Russian DWDM solutions.
The unique calculations included transponders and optical amplifiers to compensate for potential signal attenuation. The project's success underscores MegaFon's strategic move to import domestic routers for its backbone network, enhancing the network's independence and resilience by relying on Russian-developed technologies [1][3].
This infrastructure advancement is another significant move by Megafon, using domestic equipment for a project of this scale. As the 3G standard becomes obsolete with this migration, Megafon continues to push the boundaries of technological innovation in Russia's telecommunications sector.
