In a move that affects millions of users worldwide, Spotify has announced it will be increasing the prices of its Premium plans across multiple regions. The price hike, which is roughly €1 per month, equates to around a 9% rise and will be implemented starting this September.
The regions affected by the price increase include South Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region. In India, users have already started seeing the updated prices on Spotify's official website, although the exact new prices have not been officially published yet.
In the Indian market, the Individual plan is now estimated to cost around Rs 209 per month (up from Rs 119), while the Family plan will increase to Rs 229 per month (up from Rs 179). The Duo plan will now cost Rs 179 per month (up from Rs 149), and the Student plan will be available for Rs 69 per month (up from Rs 59).
Spotify's CEO, Daniel Ek, has shared that India and other emerging markets could become key sources of revenue in the future. The company confirmed the update to Moneycontrol, a leading financial news platform.
It's important to note that the exact new Indian prices will be communicated directly by Spotify to Indian subscribers via email as the rollout progresses. The company's subscription revenue rose by 12% YoY to €3.74 billion in Q2 2025, with the total revenue reaching €4.19 billion, a 10% year-on-year increase.
The price revision is part of a broader global move by the company, and it's worth noting that the report does not contain any advertisements. This price increase is not related to Apple working on a ChatGPT-like answer engine or Meta engineers joining xAI.
