Contentstack, a leading content management system (CMS) platform, is making significant strides in India, expanding its presence and offering free access to an enterprise-grade CMS for local developers and startups. This move is part of Contentstack's commitment to accelerating digital innovation in India's startup and developer ecosystem.

The San Francisco-based startup, which powers content infrastructure for over 500 global brands, including McDonald's, Alaska Airlines, ASICS, Burberry, Mattel, Mitsubishi, and Walmart, is now positioning India as its innovation hub. With over 550 team members locally, Contentstack is actively engaging the developer community through Developer Relations (DevRel) initiatives and over 40 tech events in multiple cities.

In an exclusive announcement, Contentstack's founder & CEO, Neha Sampat, revealed that Indian developers and startups will now have free access to an enterprise-grade headless CMS, a service typically reserved for large enterprises. This offering supports the local ecosystem by enabling developers to build and manage omnichannel digital content with advanced CMS capabilities at no cost.

Contentstack's expansion in India does not stop at free CMS access. The company is scaling up its presence with new offices in Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, and Virar, and expanding hiring across various functions. The startup is investing heavily in India-specific capabilities to accelerate innovation and collaboration with local developers and startups.

In addition to its physical expansion, Contentstack has launched Techsurf 2025, a pan-India hackathon focused on college students. This initiative aims to nurture young technical talent and provide a platform for showcasing skills and building solutions using Contentstack’s technology. This supports broader community engagement and talent development in India.

Contentstack's growth plans also involve redefining what a modern, intelligent Digital Experience Platform (DXP) should deliver. The company is focused on accelerating product innovation, simplifying the user experience, and scaling with intention. Recent acquisitions, such as Lytics earlier this year, have complemented its personalized product and enabled the launch of Contentstack EDGE.

Contentstack raised $80 million in Series C funding in November 2022, led by Georgian and Insight Partners, with Illuminate Ventures. The platform now powers petabytes of content every month, with a 60X surge in digital content usage. However, the company has not provided any information about future fundraising plans.

Contentstack will consider acquisitions if they accelerate time-to-market, enhance customer value, and align culturally. The company is also open to the idea of reverse flipping, if it aligns with long-term goals, whether it's talent, access to capital, or operational alignment.

In summary, Contentstack's moves in India reinforce its commitment to accelerating digital innovation. The startup's unique offerings for local developers and startups include free access to an enterprise-grade CMS, an innovation hub with a large engineering team, extensive developer outreach via events and DevRel, physical expansion with new offices in key Indian tech cities, and the launch of Techsurf 2025 hackathon to empower student developers. These initiatives position Contentstack as a key player in India's startup and developer ecosystem.
