In the heart of Dresden, a collaboration between the Dresden Whisky Manufactory and the Dresden Coffee and Cocoa Roastery has resulted in a remarkable product - Whisky Beans. This unique coffee is aged in sherry casks previously used to mature Hellinger42 single malt whisky, creating a rare fusion of whisky maturation and coffee aging.

The process involves storing roasted coffee beans in these casks, allowing the rich flavours of the whisky and sherry to subtly permeate the beans. The combination of the family-run distillery's whisky aging techniques and this innovative coffee process makes Whisky Beans a distinctive product of Dresden.

The beans are stored in 250-gram bags and are available for purchase from both manufactories and their online shops. The demand for this novel coffee is high, with more casks already filled to meet the growing interest.

The idea for Whisky Beans emerged during a joint whisky tasting, with the goal of creating a coffee with whisky aromas. After internal tests, the roastery decided to use roasted beans for the process. To ensure all beans come into contact with the cask wood, the cask is regularly turned. Every two weeks, a sample is taken to check the progress of the Whisky Beans.

The method of refining coffee beans by storing them in sherry casks is known in Scotland but is new in Germany. Implementing this process was challenging for the roastery, as they had no prior experience with this type of refinement. Nevertheless, they managed to overcome the challenges and are now offering this unique coffee to the public.

The resulting coffee has notes of berries, nuts, and chocolate, offering a flavour profile unlike any other coffee.
