Industrial Hydrogen Generator certified by UL Solutions - Ohmium Electrolyzer receives initial accreditation

Ohmium International, a green hydrogen company, has made a significant stride in the renewable energy sector with the launch of its UL-certified industrial hydrogen generator. This generator, based on water electrolysis, offers key advantages that make it highly suited to support large-scale green hydrogen production, a critical aspect in the energy transition.

Key Advantages of Ohmium's UL-Certified Generator

The generator has been certified under UL 2264A, the Outline of Investigation for Water Electrolysis Type Hydrogen Generators. This certification ensures high safety compliance, efficient and continuous hydrogen production, and modular, dynamic integration with renewable energy sources.

The UL 2264A certification is the first industry-specific UL safety standard for water electrolyzers, ensuring rigorous operational safety and reliability in industrial applications. The generator can produce around 430 kg/day of hydrogen at 40 bar pressure, designed for sustained 24/7 operation and modular scalability.

Ohmium’s PEM electrolyzers integrate well with renewable power sources such as solar and wind, enabling green hydrogen that supports decarbonization targets across sectors.

Applications Driving Sustainability and Energy Transition

The generator finds applications in various sectors, including industrial, transportation, power generation, and storage. In industries like steel, chemicals, and ammonia production, green hydrogen can replace fossil fuels, reducing carbon emissions.

Hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) are expanding, supported by hydrogen production infrastructure from Ohmium’s generators. In power generation and storage, hydrogen acts as an energy carrier, storing excess renewable energy and generating clean power through fuel cells when needed, thus enabling grid stabilization and decarbonization.

Ohmium is also partnering with NTPC in India to scale up projects totaling 400 MW, supporting large-scale sustainable hydrogen and ammonia production. This partnership is part of NTPC's 60 GW renewable capacity target by 2032.

The Importance of UL Certification

The UL Certification is an important milestone for safety assurance in the transition to green hydrogen. The UL Listing of Ohmium's electrolyzer system is a confirmation of the company's commitment to safety, reliability, and operational excellence. This certification makes it easier for Ohmium's customers to achieve their goals of transitioning to green hydrogen.

Arne Ballantine, CEO of Ohmium, has commended the company for being the first to complete the rigorous UL 2264A testing for their electrolyzer system. Kenneth Boyce, Vice President of Principal Engineering in the Industrial Testing, Inspection and Certification group at UL Solutions, also made a statement about the certification.

The news underscores Ohmium's role in shaping the hydrogen market, contributing to the global focus on sustainability and advancements in technology and investments in energy infrastructure to decarbonize the economy.
