Introducing Tadej Pogacar's latest tool: Colnago's lightest frame yet, the groundbreaking V5Rs model

Colnago, the renowned Italian bike manufacturer, has announced the release of its latest creation, the V5Rs. This new model is an evolution of the highly successful V4Rs, offering significant weight reduction, aerodynamic improvements, and refined handling for a faster all-rounder.

Key Differences and Improvements

The V5Rs distinguishes itself from its predecessor with a frame and fork that are approximately 12.5% lighter. For instance, the V5Rs frame weighs around 685 grams, compared to the V4Rs' 798 grams, while the V5Rs fork weighs 342 grams versus 375 grams for the V4Rs. This weight loss translates to a frame kit that weighs 1027 grams, making it comparable to the Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL8 or Cervélo R5.

Aerodynamics have also been improved, with a 13% reduction in frontal area. This is achieved through thinner and deeper seatpost and seat tube profiles, enhancing airflow efficiency compared to the V4Rs.

Stiffness remains unchanged, as Colnago used Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to optimize carbon lamination and production techniques to reduce weight without compromising rigidity.

Emphasis on Advanced Aerodynamics

While the V4Rs was known for its lightweight and stiff construction, the V5Rs places a greater emphasis on advanced aerodynamics. This shift appeals to tech-focused riders seeking a fast all-around race bike.

Pricing and Debut

Prices for the V5Rs frameset start at $6,250 / €5,940. Complete builds start around €10,000 and go up to $16,500 / €15,990 for the top-tier spec. The V5Rs will make its official WorldTour debut this weekend at Amstel Gold Race.

On the Race Circuit

The V5Rs has already proven its worth, with riders of UAE Team Emirates-XRG and UAE Team ADQ putting it through its paces. It has been ridden to victory in various races, including the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia, La Fleche Wallonne, Paris-Nice, Tour of Flanders, Amstel Gold Race, and the UCI Road World Championships.

Geometry and Comfort

Colnago made subtle adjustments to the geometry of the V5Rs to better accommodate modern riding positions and enhance handling. Two seatpost setback options are available for the V5Rs: 0mm and 15mm. The V5Rs has slightly steeper head tube and seat tube angles for a more forward-oriented riding position. Tyre clearance remains generous, accommodating up to 32mm.

Positioned as an All-Rounder

The V5Rs is being positioned as an all-rounder for various race scenarios, combining a lightweight chassis with aero refinements and geometry tuned for modern race dynamics. The V5Rs switches from T47 to a BSA bottom bracket.

Wind Tunnel Testing and Aerodynamic Advantage

In wind tunnel testing, the V5Rs was found to be 9 watts faster than its predecessor at 50 km/h. This speed advantage is due to changes such as a new tube profile, slimmer fork blades, a drastically thinner seatpost, and a reduced frontal area.

Sharing Development with the Y1Rs

The V5Rs shares development with the Y1Rs, a radical aero project by Colnago, and is designed for riders who prefer solo attacks and high-speed breakaways.

Notable Achievements

Recently, Mathieu van der Poel achieved a notable victory on a V5Rs, averaging 46.841 km/h at Paris-Roubaix last weekend.

The V5Rs represents the next chapter in Colnago's V Series legacy, replacing the V4Rs as the winningest bike model.

Sports enthusiasts can look forward to road racing with the latest creation from Colnago, the V5Rs. This new model not only offers advancements in technology, such as weight reduction and aerodynamic improvements, but also incorporates gadgets aimed at enhancing performance, making it an appealing choice for tech-focused riders seeking a fast all-rounder.
