Introducing the EPOD Electric three-wheeler by Youdha, with a preliminary revenue goal of ₹1,000 crore by 2030.
In India, the L5 segment, which includes electric three-wheelers approved for passenger carrying on roads, is experiencing rapid growth. This development is driven by rising fuel costs and government incentives, making electric vehicles an attractive option for urban and semi-urban transport.
Among the upcoming electric three-wheelers in this segment, two key launches stand out: the Youdha EPOD and the Piaggio Ape E-City Ultra.
Youdha EPOD: A Competitive Offering
The Youdha EPOD, priced around ₹2.79 lakh, is a competitive offering in the market, positioned against established players like Mahindra, Bajaj, and TVS. The EPOD comes equipped with a 6 kW electric motor, producing 50 Nm of torque, and an 11.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, offering a certified range of 227 km on a charge.
Youdha's manufacturing unit at Kashipur has an annual production capacity of 1,00,000 EPODs. The launch of the EPOD marks a transition from Youdha's e-rickshaw-centric business to more mainstream electric vehicle products.
The EPOD boasts dual driving modes, City and Boost, and a 300 mm water-wading capability, making it suitable for India's diverse road conditions. Youdha aims to create a larger network of retailers and services to drive EV adoption throughout India.
Piaggio Ape E-City Ultra: Durability and Long Range
Piaggio's offering, the Ape E-City Ultra, emphasises durability and long range, making it suitable for demanding city operations. The vehicle features a 9.55 kW peak power motor and a 10.2 kWh LFP battery, offering a certified range of 236 km. The Ape E-City Ultra also boasts a full metal body with a soft roof, 170 mm ground clearance, and a top speed of 55 kmph.
As the automotive landscape continues to be transformed by cutting-edge technology, these new-generation electric passenger three-wheelers are set to play a significant role in India's urban and semi-urban transport.
