Japan Mobility Show and CEATEC Collaborate for a Promising Future

The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) has announced the launch of this year's Japan Mobility Show (JMS), which will be held jointly with CEATEC, a comprehensive exhibition of digital innovation. This collaboration aims to showcase Society 5.0, a vision of a future society that integrates human and artificial intelligence to resolve societal issues.

Chairman Masanori Katayama of Isuzu made the announcement at a press conference held on May 23, 2024. He expressed his hope for a prosperous and promising future, working together with CEATEC to build a co-creation platform for sparking new businesses.

The JMS will run from October 15 to 18 at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, as previously stated. The event will alternate between showcasing the latest mobility-related advances and a business-centric format for forging new partnerships and collaborations each year.

One of the key features of this year's JMS is reverse pitching, where established companies and startups work together to co-create and sincerely address challenges. The press release for this year's JMS states a vision of mobility companies acting as problem solvers for societal issues.

Over 150 startups and 50 established companies are scheduled to exhibit at the JMS. Murata Manufacturing, for instance, is seeking collaboration partners to develop innovative components like proximity and force sensors for enhanced human–machine interfaces and invisible ID tags for seamless authentication, promoting smarter, more connected mobility ecosystems. They also emphasize sustainability with technologies such as underwater CO2 sensors for blue carbon verification and lightweight heat transfer materials for efficient automotive thermal management, supporting decarbonization efforts in future mobility vehicles.

NEC Corporation, on the other hand, won the CEATEC 2024 Special Award for leveraging video recognition combined with generation AI to promote industrial digital transformation and improve business efficiency. This showcases the role of AI and data-driven solutions in revolutionizing mobility infrastructure and services.

Mapbox will exhibit advanced data visualization and navigation technologies, focusing on operational efficiency and customer-centric mobility services, which align with the future of on-demand, flexible transportation systems.

Together, these developments highlight a trend toward collaborative innovation that fuses AI, IoT, advanced sensors, and sustainable materials to create interconnected, intelligent mobility solutions. This co-creation and business partnership approach at the Japan Mobility Show and CEATEC will likely drive transformative mobility businesses that are socially impactful and technologically advanced.

The JMS will also set up opportunities for startups and established companies to communicate, both at the venue and online, facilitating vibrant dialogues and business-matching. Chairman Katayama outlined the three main pillars of the business event: promoting new partnerships, facilitating communication between startups and established companies, and holding the Future Mobility Forum.

In line with Chairman Toyoda's previous goal of creating an event that brings all people together, the Mobility Show is set to serve as a co-creation platform for sparking new businesses. The show will be more focused on the business side, and it is expected to foster future-shaping businesses centered on co-creation and strategic partnerships that advance a mobility-based society through cutting-edge technology and social innovation.

The Mobility Show, which was renamed from the Tokyo Motor Show in its first edition, drew 1.11 million visitors in its last year. With these exciting developments, the 2024 collaboration between the Japan Mobility Show and CEATEC is expected to be a significant event in the mobility industry.

  1. The collaboration between the Japan Mobility Show and CEATEC will incorporate technology, specifically AI and data-driven solutions, to revolutionize mobility infrastructure and services, thereby fostering new businesses in the finance sector.
  2. At the event, established companies like Murata Manufacturing are seeking partnerships in technology areas such as proximity sensors and CO2 sensors, aiming to promote smarter, more connected mobility ecosystems and contributing to the decarbonization efforts in future mobility vehicles, which aligns with both business and sustainability objectives.
