Kar-Tainer Revolutionizes Car Shipping in Containers
The surge in new container ships has sparked interest in transporting cars in containers, yet many Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) view it as a temporary solution. However, innovative systems like Kar-Tainer's cassette system are changing the game, offering efficient and secure loading options.
Kar-Tainer's cassette system can load six containers with 18 cars each in just 15 minutes, maximising utilisation rates and bringing significant economic benefits. Despite concerns about damage, Kar-Tainer has a proven track record, with a damage ratio of less than 0.015%. This is a stark contrast to the potential tenfold increase in damage compared to roll-on/roll-off (r-ro) methods.
The shortage of r-ro capacity has led to an increase in used cars being shipped in containers. Securing cars during transit is crucial to prevent damage, and Kar-Tainer's equipment ensures this, preventing slower throughput and additional damage caused by manual loading.
With global light vehicle volumes recovering to pre-pandemic levels of 90 million units in 2023, and demand increasing in markets like India and China, efficient and secure container transport is more important than ever. Kar-Tainer, with over 1.6 million cars shipped using their equipment, is at the forefront of this shift, providing a reliable and efficient solution for OEMs and the automotive industry.
