Latest updates from the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show: Highlights of Innovations Exhibited
The 2025 Seoul Mobility Show, held at Kintex from 4th April to 13th April, was a hub of innovation and electrification, with world-first unveils from Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, BMW, BYD, Lotus, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche.
Hyundai took centre stage with the debut of the Ioniq 6 lineup, a significant flagship in their electric portfolio for 2025 and beyond. The Ioniq 6, with its sleek, aerodynamic saloon body and cutting-edge design elements, sets new benchmarks for EV aesthetics and efficiency.
Key points of significance include the introduction of the Ioniq 6 N variant, a powerful electric sedan capable of delivering around 650 horsepower through a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and a high-capacity 84 kWh battery. Hyundai is positioning the Ioniq 6 N as a collectible, low-volume performance EV, with plans for production at the Asan factory and releases planned for Europe and America by late 2025 or early 2026.
Hyundai also unveiled the second-generation Nexo hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle, targeting a 435-mile range from a five-minute refuel. The production version of the Nexo aims for 11,000 annual sales worldwide.
Kia showcased the all-electric PV5, which will go on sale in the second half of 2025 in Korea and Europe. The PV5 features camper van-style passenger variants, collaborations with LG, and versions optimized for wheelchair users. Engineers are working to integrate less expensive cameras into the Pix Moving Robobus, aiming to reduce the cost to $100,000 by 2028.
Genesis, Hyundai Motor Group's luxury brand, unveiled the X Gran Coupe and Convertible concepts at the show, based on the G90 production model. The ex-Bentley designers Luc Donckerwolke and SangYup Lee have been instrumental in Genesis' development over the last decade. However, Genesis needs to put more well-realised ideas into production and differentiate itself from its inspirations.
A Korean-made e-bike named Top Secret was also showcased, featuring a titanium and aluminium main frame and hubless wheels.
The 2025 Seoul Mobility Show also featured a number of concept cars, including the sportier Ioniq N Line model, the Insteroid concept car designed to engage the younger generation, and the Pix Moving Robobus, an autonomous shuttle pod that can carry up to six passengers and travel 60 miles before a recharge.
Overall, the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show was a testament to the strides being made in the electric vehicle industry, with Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis leading the charge in Korea.
