Latvia's Border Security Infrastructure with Russia On Track for 2025 Completion

Latvia's border security infrastructure with Russia is on track for completion by 2025. The project, involving border fencing and advanced technology, is set to bolster real-time threat detection and response.

The entire 283-kilometer border will be fenced, with only 5 kilometers remaining unfenced. Construction is on schedule, with two contracts covering 83 kilometers signed in July 2024 and three more covering 201 kilometers signed in January 2025.

The technological infrastructure, including fiber optic cables and cameras, is planned to be finished by the end of 2026. This will enable real-time detection and efficient use of staff resources, strengthening border control. Girts Ozols, Chairman of the LVRTC Board, has praised the technology's potential to enhance border surveillance capabilities.

With the border nearly complete and technological infrastructure underway, Latvia's border security is set for significant improvement. The project, involving multiple contracts and companies, aims to strengthen the country's eastern border by 2025.
