Law Unveils Home 4.0 Update

Lawo, a leading provider of broadcast and media solutions, has announced the release of its latest IP-native management platform, HOME 4.0. This platform is designed to connect, manage, and secure IP-based media devices and workflows, supporting both Lawo and third-party NMOS-compliant equipment.

A Flexible and Scalable Solution

HOME 4.0 runs on cloud-native, containerized microservices, enabling centralized configuration, routing, parameter control, and seamless integration of IP workflows on-premises, across multiple sites, or in the cloud. The platform supports key IP media standards such as SMPTE ST2110, AES67, NMOS IS-04/05, IEEE 802.1x, and RADIUS.

Key features of HOME 4.0 include centralised control of HOME-native and third-party devices and apps for IP-based infrastructures, unified device discovery, stream routing, and secure system operation within a standards-based environment. It also integrates with Lawo’s ecosystem, including HOME Apps for signal processing, monitoring, commentary, and transcoding.

A New Licensing Model: HOME Passes

The licensing model in HOME 4.0 introduces HOME Passes, which replace all previous core licenses. Each actively managed device or HOME App requires one HOME Pass. This model is scalable and transparent, enabling precise cost planning. Licensing costs directly scale with the number of active devices, so fewer devices mean lower costs.

HOME Passes can be purchased as permanent licenses or via Lawo Flex Subscription credits, offering flexibility for workflows with variable device counts or temporary setups. The HOME software itself is now available at no cost for deployment, allowing smaller or temporary environments to use it without an initial license fee. Newly purchased HOME 4.0 devices and apps come bundled with the appropriate HOME Passes, simplifying onboarding.

Benefits in Dynamic Infrastructures

The benefits of HOME 4.0's licensing and platform design are especially notable in dynamic infrastructures where system sizes and device counts fluctuate. The licensing model’s flexibility allows cost-efficient scaling up or down without paying for unused licenses. Moreover, the platform’s operational flexibility supports diverse deployment scenarios (on-premises, cloud, multi-location) with centralized IP management and high security.

In summary, Lawo HOME 4.0 delivers a modern, scalable, and flexible IP infrastructure management platform with a usage-based licensing system (HOME Passes) that aligns costs with actual device usage, supporting dynamic broadcast and media environments efficiently.

The IP-native management platform, HOME 4.0, incorporates signal processing technology through Lawo's HOME Apps. This technology, coupled with the platform's data-and-cloud-computing architecture, allows for broadcast signals to be processed and efficiently managed.

The new licensing model in HOME 4.0, HOME Passes, not only makes it possible to integrate third-party devices and apps, but also ensures cost efficiency in dynamic infrastructure settings, where the number of active devices may fluctuate, by scaling costs directly with the number of active devices.
