Local news outlets are forming a vast "Mega Family" by recruiting journalists from various geographical areas.
MegaFon, Russia's leading mobile operator, has launched a groundbreaking service called "MegaFamily". This new feature allows users to share their mobile packages, including gigabytes, minutes, and SMS, with participants from any region across the country.
Previously, MegaFamily owners could only add friends and relatives from their own region or neighboring areas. However, the latest update to the service now removes these geographical restrictions. To connect the option, a subscriber needs to go to the "MegaFamily" section in the MegaFon application, create it, and enter the name and phone number of their relative.
According to MegaFon analysts, the most caring "MegaFamily" organisers reside in the Taymyr and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs, Chechnya, Dagestan, and Magadan Oblast. Interestingly, in 58% of cases, men are the organisers of MegaFamily.
The most active age group for MegaFamily creation is 35-44 years old. This service is the first offer of this format among the largest mobile companies in the country, with MTS being the first to enable MegaFamily members from different regions to be grouped together.
Up to five participants can be added to MegaFamily. The more participants, the more additional gigabytes are added to the tariff, with a maximum of 300 GB in total, depending on the tariff. Group members of MegaFamily have access to common "MegaPowers", which include unlimited calls on MegaFon, bonus gigabytes, additional minutes, and internet packages, as well as balance transfer.
Since the beginning of the year, the number of users actively sharing their tariff has increased by almost 25%. This new service is expected to further boost this trend. The Russian mobile operator MTS took the first place in LTE coverage in Khabarovsk Krai, but this fact is not directly related to the new MegaFamily feature.
Dmitry Rudskikh, a spokesperson for MegaFon, announced the launch of the MegaFamily service in April 2023. MegaFon has created a solution that allows the service to be modified, providing clients with the ability to add participants registered in other regions. This move is set to strengthen the company's position in the competitive mobile market in Russia.
