Majority Prefers to Employ Smartphones on Christmas Evening
In a nationwide survey conducted by Bitkom Research in November, 1,002 individuals aged 16 and over shared their plans and habits for the festive season.
The survey revealed that 82% of people in Germany do not plan to give up their smartphones on Christmas Eve, with only 17% opting for a complete smartphone ban. Interestingly, 47% of people admitted to taking more photos and videos with their smartphones on Christmas Eve.
When it comes to linear TV, every third person (36%) still watches it on Christmas Eve. However, digital devices are becoming more prevalent in holiday celebrations, with 23% of people allowing digital devices for the first time this year.
Streaming movies or series on Christmas Eve is a popular activity, particularly among the younger generation. One in ten prefers this activity, with almost one in five (17%) among 16- to 29-year-olds choosing to stream content after receiving their gifts.
The survey also found that 24% of people test tech gifts like game consoles or tablets with their family on Christmas Eve. On the other hand, 46% of people insist that the smartphone is not used during dinner on Christmas Day.
Many German citizens, due to restrictions during the corona pandemic, expressed a desire to be reachable on holidays. The survey data was collected from these 1,002 participants.
The survey was conducted on a nationwide basis and provides valuable insights into the technology and entertainment habits of German citizens during the festive season.
