Maruti Suzuki's First Automobile Train Reaches Anantnag, Marking Major Logistics Shift
Maruti Suzuki's first-ever automobile triple a has reached Anantnag, marking a significant shift in vehicle logistics. The train, carrying popular models like the Brezza, Dzire, WagonR, and S-Presso, travelled 850 km over 45 hours, crossing the world's highest railway arch bridge, the Chenab Bridge.
The new service is part of the larger Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, aiming to integrate Jammu and Kashmir with the national rail network. This move is expected to decongest roads into the valley and provide a more reliable alternative for goods movement.
Maruti Suzuki's reliance on rail for vehicle logistics is growing. In 2024-25 alone, over 5.18 lakh vehicles were transported by rail. This shift reduces dependence on road carriers, eliminating around 65,000 truck trips annually and cutting emissions by avoiding the use of about 60 million litres of diesel.
The successful operation of this automobile train opens up new possibilities for efficient and sustainable transportation of goods in the region. As part of the USBRL project, it paves the way for further integration and development of the Jammu and Kashmir region.
