MegaFon to Clear Web Traffic from News Websites
In an unprecedented move, Russian telecommunications company MegaFon has announced that it will suspend mobile internet access for leading Russian news resources from August 15 to 17. This decision, aimed at ensuring users have fast and convenient access to reliable information during the summit, will impact mobile internet users who rely on these news resources for their information.
The Russia-USA summit, marking the first face-to-face meeting between President Vladimir Putin and American leader Donald Trump since 2019, will take place on August 15 in the state of Alaska.
Dmitry Rudenko, MegaFon's Commercial Director, stated that the move aims to enable subscribers to read news, watch video, and view text broadcasts without worrying about their remaining internet packages. The sites with free access include federal TV channels, business publications, and popular public media in the country.
The full list of resources with free access includes 14 sites: RIA Novosti (ria.ru), TASS (tass.ru), Interfax (interfax.ru), RBC (rbc.ru), Kommersant (kommersant.ru), Vedomosti (vedomosti.ru), Izvestia (iz.ru), Gazeta.Ru (gazeta.ru), Lenta.ru, NTV, Channel One, VGTRK, RT, and Ura.ru.
Traffic on these sites will be zeroed out for all MegaFon clients in Russia with a positive account balance. External link transitions, including social networks and video hosting sites, will be charged according to the terms of the current tariff plan.
It's important to note that the suspension is not a permanent change in MegaFon's internet services and will be lifted after the summit. No specific details about the exclusion of any other news resources were provided.
If you seek more information about this offer, it might be necessary to consult official MegaFon press releases, news reports around the summit dates, or MegaFon's official communication channels. As of now, no public details are available about MegaFon's free mobile data access for news resources during that summit.
The suspension of mobile internet is only for leading Russian news resources and not for all internet services. This move is intended to allow users to follow the Russia-USA summit in real-time without restrictions. No additional service activation is required for this offer.
