Meta's New Policy: 1 Billion Users Face Targeted Ads Based on AI Interactions
Meta is set to introduce a new policy on Dec. 16, affecting over 1 billion users of its AI tools. The policy, with no opt-out option, will use interactions with AI tools to serve targeted ads across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. However, users in the UK, EU, and South Korea are exempt.
Meta will analyze voice chats and text conversations to personalize content and ad recommendations. Jake Moore, a global cybersecurity advisor, warns users might switch to alternatives like OpenAI's Sora 2 or Google's Veo 3 due to privacy concerns. Meta's business model heavily relies on advertising, and while certain sensitive topics like religious views or health will be excluded, ads will become more relevant based on user interactions with Meta's generative AI features. Users will be notified about this update on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

While users in the UK, EU, and South Korea are exempt, others will see targeted ads based on their interactions with Meta's AI. Privacy concerns may lead some users to switch to competitors.
