Method for Installing Apps onto Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7's Cover Display Screen
Samsung has recently launched the Galaxy Z Flip7, a new generation flip-style foldable device. One of the key features of this device is its expanded cover screen, which offers a wide range of functions to users.
The Galaxy Z Flip7 boasts the largest cover screen on a flip foldable smartphone, measuring 4.1 inches. Users can run many apps directly on the cover screen, such as Instagram, TikTok, Google Maps, messaging apps, and even Netflix, without opening the phone. It also supports interactive widgets, customizable wallpapers, aspect ratio adjustments to avoid camera cutouts, and features like tent mode for hands-free viewing.
However, in comparison to Motorola's foldable devices, particularly the Razr Ultra, Samsung's cover screen functionality is more complicated and in some respects more limited in practicality.
To unlock and enable more apps on the cover screen of the Galaxy Z Flip7, users must navigate to Settings > Advanced Features > Labs, and toggle switches for Multi window, Use main screen navigation on cover screen, and Apps allowed on cover screen (Labs). After toggling the switches, users must select "Get MultiStar", agree to the Galaxy Store privacy notice, install the app, and enable the Launcher Widget for the desired apps.
In contrast, Motorola's Razr Ultra allows quick and intuitive access to apps and widget customization on its cover display without extra downloads, making its smaller external screen more user-friendly in practical daily use.
While the Z Flip7 has a technically more capable and larger cover screen, Motorola’s foldables currently offer a more seamless and easier-to-use cover screen experience without the need for third-party apps or complex setups.
Here's a comparison of the two devices:
| Feature | Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 | Motorola Razr Ultra | |--------------------------------|-----------------------------------------------------|----------------------------------------------| | Apps on cover screen | Wide range of apps including social, media, maps | Wide range with quick, native access | | Widget customization | Limited in One UI 8; requires phone to open for changes | Easy widget tweaks directly on cover screen | | Setup and complexity | Requires installing/configuring Good Lock and Multistar apps | Native, simple out-of-the-box experience | | Interactive features (e.g., tent mode) | Supported | Supported | | User-friendliness for cover screen operations | More complicated and restricted | More intuitive and streamlined |
The Galaxy Z Flip7 was unveiled at Samsung's Summer 2025 Samsung Unpacked event. Despite its drawbacks, the device offers a versatile mini smartphone experience on the outside, allowing users to customize the layout of their selected apps to their liking. Users have the freedom to use their selected apps on the cover screen as they prefer.
