MrBeast Faces COPPA Scrutiny, Updates Data Practices
YouTube sensation MrBeast, real name Jimmy Donaldson, has faced scrutiny over his data collection methods. CARU, the children's advertising review unit, found potential violations of the federal Children's Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA).
MrBeast's sweepstakes required children to provide personal information without parental consent, violating privacy guidelines. His Feastables website also improperly collected and shared children's personal data. Despite these issues, no organisation has filed a complaint against him.
CARU's investigation revealed these potential COPPA violations. However, MrBeast has since collaborated with CARU to rectify the situation. He has updated his channel's data collection methods to ensure compliance with the rule.
