The false information, spread online just as Onvo was about to launch its L90 SUV, accused the company of orchestrating smear campaigns against rival carmakers and making cryptocurrency payments to online trolls. Nio has strongly denied these allegations, labeling them as malicious slander and defamatory. The company has further asserted that some evidence presented as "whistleblower information" was entirely fabricated and AI-generated false content.

Nio has reported the matter to public security authorities and intends to pursue legal action to protect its rights and ensure fair competition. The company's sub-brand Onvo is set to officially launch the L90 SUV on Jul 31.
