New 3D Analogue Controller Delivered Late, Leaves N64 Gamepad Absent on Doorstep Today

The much-anticipated 8Bitdo N64 Bluetooth Controller, designed specifically for the Analogue 3D retro console, is now available for purchase. However, the release was delayed due to the multiple delays experienced by the Analogue 3D console itself.

Initially announced in October 2024 for a March 2025 release, the controller became available for pre-order in early July 2025 and started shipping late July 2025. Despite being available, some pre-orders have been delayed, with Amazon pushing back certain orders initially expected around July 31st to August 1st.

The 8Bitdo N64 Bluetooth Controller retails for $39.99 (US) and £34.99 (UK) on Amazon. It comes in both white and black colours. For those on a tighter budget, Hyperkin offers the "Admiral" version for $38.02, providing a similar layout and wireless capabilities.

The 8Bitdo N64 Bluetooth Controller is more than just a companion to the Analogue 3D console. It is compatible with other devices such as the Nintendo Switch, Windows 10+, and Android 9+, allowing you to use it independently even while some console shipments remain delayed.

The controller features a single joystick to the left, a departure from contemporary controllers, and incorporates the Nintendo 64's six-button layout with modern controller sensibilities. The A and B buttons are located where the right stick would normally reside, while the "C buttons" are placed where you'd normally find A, B, X, and Y on a Switch pad.

The controller uses Bluetooth or USB-C for connectivity and is equipped with a hall-effect joystick, an improvement over the Nintendo 64's drifty gamepad. It can be used with an adapter for connecting to OG console hardware or with the Switch 2 or OG hardware when paired with an adapter.

For those who prefer alternative options, Hyperkin offers the "Captain" controller for $17.99, while the Brawler64 by Retro Fighers offers similar vibes for $39.95. However, these alternatives mainly cater to original N64 hardware, while the 8Bitdo controller is intended for playing Nintendo Online ports.

In the UK, the white version of the 8Bitdo N6D Bluetooth Controller is expected to arrive on August 2 with Prime. Whether you're a seasoned retro gamer or new to the world of retro consoles, the 8Bitdo N64 Bluetooth Controller offers a unique blend of nostalgia and modern gaming convenience.
