Nintendo Switch 2 Introduces GameChat for Enhanced Social Gaming

The Nintendo Switch 2 has taken a significant leap forward in social gaming with the introduction of GameChat, a native voice and video communication feature. This new integration eliminates the need for external apps or smartphones, offering seamless and quick access to social gaming features entirely on the console.

GameChat allows players to chat during multiplayer games, set private chat rooms, share gameplay screens, and make video calls using a compatible USB-C camera. Some of its key features include:

  • In-game voice chat using the built-in microphone on the console.
  • Video calls enabled through the Nintendo Switch 2 camera or a compatible USB-C camera (sold separately).
  • Screen sharing allowing up to four users to broadcast their gameplay simultaneously.
  • Support for up to 12 friends in a voice chat lobby.
  • Easy activation via a dedicated C Button on the right Joy-Con 2 controller.
  • Built-in parental controls and privacy settings.
  • Visual indicators show who is speaking, and there is a mute-all toggle to manage noise.

For video chat, a Nintendo Switch 2 camera or a compatible USB-C camera is required (sold separately). Voice chat uses the built-in mic, so no additional mic is needed for voice-only communication. An internet connection is necessary for online multiplayer and chat functionality.

From launch until March 31, 2026, GameChat can be used without requiring a Nintendo Switch Online membership. However, starting April 1, 2026, a membership will be required to use GameChat. This means users have free access to GameChat voice and video features during the open-access period but must subscribe afterward to continue using these services.

Some features and terms may vary by country, and some regions may have restrictions on availability. For more details, please refer to the terms of use.
