Nintendo World Championships' fifth competition is underway, featuring Nintendo Entertainment System games

Competitive gaming enthusiasts, get ready to test your skills in the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition! This exciting event, available exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online members, offers a unique twist on classic NES games.

To participate, you'll need a Nintendo Switch console, the Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition game, an active Nintendo Switch Online membership, and a Nintendo Account. Internet access is also crucial for accessing online multiplayer and leaderboards.

The game features over 150 speed-running challenges across 13 classic NES games, presented in "byte-sized" segments. This means you don't have to master full games to compete. Challenges allow you to compete against others worldwide, challenge friends locally, or improve your personal best times.

Performance is graded with a letter ranking system, and you can race against your previous best runs shown side by side. As you complete challenges, you'll earn in-game coins, which unlock additional challenges.

The competition encourages players to push their personal bests. You can watch replays of the top runs for each challenge to learn tips and improve your own times. The challenges are designed to be accessible even to newcomers unfamiliar with the original NES games.

However, for multiplayer modes, additional accessories may be required, which are sold separately. The competition is not available in all countries, and internet access is required for online features. Terms apply, and you can find more information on the official website.

The competition includes tough challenges that may test your limits. For instance, in Fireball Rush (Kirby's Adventure), you must navigate through a level while collecting fireballs as fast as you can. In Leap to the Peak (Super Mario Bros. 2), you'll need to jump over obstacles and enemies to reach the peak of a level within a time limit.

You can also showcase your skills in the game Pop It (Balloon Fight), where the goal is to pop as many balloons as possible within a time limit. In Hammer Bro KO (Super Mario Bros. 3), the objective is to defeat Hammer Bro as quickly as possible. In Neigh Slayer (Zelda II: The Adventure of Link), you must defeat enemies on horseback as quickly as possible.

The World Championships and Survival modes feature these challenges, along with others. The Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition is a game that will test your speed, strategy, and skill. So, are you ready to take on the challenge?

Remember, your Nintendo Switch Online membership auto-renews after the initial term at the then-current price unless canceled. The competition is ongoing, with Competition #5 available for Nintendo Switch Online members from now until 8/19 at 1:59 a.m. PT. Get ready, and may the best player win!
