In a strategic move to enhance the safety, efficiency, and overall driving experience of its smart electric vehicles (EVs), Firefly, a sub-brand targeting the premium compact EV market, has partnered with HERE Technologies. This partnership aims to provide Firefly with high-quality map data and location services, positioning the brand to offer premium EV technology with enhanced safety and driving experiences.

The partnership will see HERE Technologies supply Firefly with detailed map data, supporting connected navigation and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). This collaboration will improve the overall driving experience by leveraging rich map details, making navigation more intuitive and ensuring that Firefly vehicles meet international safety and regulatory standards.

One of the key aspects of this partnership is the integration of Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) support. This feature will enable Firefly vehicles to comply with European safety standards by providing accurate speed limit information, a crucial requirement for expanding into the EU market.

Furthermore, through HERE's partnership with Telenav Inc., Firefly will integrate a suite of HERE location services, enhancing the digital cockpit and navigation experiences. This includes real-time traffic insights, which will aid in providing seamless in-car navigation for a software-defined vehicle experience.

Firefly has conducted a 15-day testing period driving from Berlin, Germany, through seven countries in Europe, demonstrating its commitment to understanding and adapting to European road conditions. This testing period is part of Firefly's strategy to enter about 20 overseas markets by the end of this year, with the right-hand drive version of the Firefly EV expected to be available in markets such as the UK and Southeast Asia between October and August next year.

The Firefly EV, which starts at RMB 119,800 ($16,700) in China, competes with the BMW Mini and Mercedes-Benz Smart. By leveraging HERE's expertise, Firefly aims to solidify its position in the market and expand its global footprint, particularly in Europe.

HERE Technologies, founded in 1985 and previously owned by Nokia, was sold to a consortium of automotive companies, including Audi, BMW, and Daimler, in 2015. This partnership underscores HERE Technologies' commitment to the automotive industry and its role in driving innovation in the EV sector.

In conclusion, the partnership between Firefly and HERE Technologies is set to revolutionise the smart driving features of Firefly's electric vehicles, ensuring a safer, more efficient, and overall improved driving experience for its users. This strategic alliance aligns with Nio's broader strategy to expand its global presence, particularly in the European market.
