Novenda Technologies secures $6.1 million funding to expand multi-material 3D printing capabilities specifically for dental laboratories

In a groundbreaking development, Novenda Technologies, a Dutch startup, is leading the charge in transforming dental product manufacturing with its innovative multi-material 3D printing technology. The company recently secured $6.1 million (about €5.2 million) in Series A funding, paving the way for the commercial launch of its next-generation dental 3D printer and accelerating expansion in the dental manufacturing sector.

The technology eliminates manual steps such as glue application and roller use, using water-soluble support materials and high-precision jetting techniques. This results in reduced post-processing needs and unprecedented long-term accuracy, addressing a critical industry challenge where skilled dental technicians are becoming scarce and costly.

Novenda's approach includes not only innovative hardware but a complete ecosystem encompassing certified materials, software, and services, ensuring consistent regulatory compliance, safety, and quality through exclusive use of Novenda’s certified materials.

Industry experts suggest that this innovation is a major driver in the shift towards more digital, automated, and equitable dental manufacturing. The potential impact is significant, with scalability and reproducibility for high-volume production of medical-grade dental products, reduced waste and minimized post-processing, improved affordability and accessibility of dental care, setting new quality standards for dental manufacturing workflows, and empowering labs to automate complex production processes.

Early industry feedback on Novenda's night guards is exceptional, with experts noting the best surface finish and aesthetic appearance seen. The platform's full stack technology enables the manufacturing of comfortable, natural-looking dental products with both hard and soft materials in a single piece. Moreover, its colour management algorithm achieves unlimited color possibilities using just a few base colors.

Novenda plans to expand its platform to other dental applications and enter new markets where individualised mass manufacturing is key. The company's LD100 printer represents a one-time investment and works exclusively with its own materials to ensure quality and biocompatibility.

The funding was led by Brightlands Venture Partners, with participation from KBC Focus Fund (Belgium), Borski Fund (NL), Limburg Business Development Fund/LIOF (NL), a group of angel investors, and an Innovation Credit from RVO. Nuno Carvalho, Investment Director at KBC Focus Fund, believes Novenda's multi-material jetting technology has the potential to transform the dental industry by enabling cost-effective, high-quality production.

Founded in 2019 by Klaas Wiertzema, Petra Doelman, and Joost Anne Veerman, Novenda Technologies' high-throughput, automated solution aims to help meet growing demand in the dental industry. The company has assembled a team of fifteen experts in physics, chemistry, material science, and software engineering.

With this new funding, Novenda Technologies is poised to reshape expectations and establish new norms in oral healthcare production, setting a new quality standard for dental products and enhancing affordability. This could have lasting implications for cost, quality, and access to dental products worldwide.

  1. The digital transformation in the dental industry could see a significant boost with Novenda Technologies' innovative multi-material 3D printing technology, as it aims to automate complex production processes, Addressing the industry's challenge of scarce and costly skilled dental technicians.
  2. As Novenda Technologies expands its platform to other dental applications and markets, its LD100 printer representing a one-time investment and exclusive use of certified materials, sets the stage for cost-effective, high-quality production, potentially transforming the dental industry.
