O2 Telefónica announces the 5G extension in Buchloe
O2 Telefónica Expands 5G Network Coverage in Buchloe
In a significant move to boost digital services and connectivity, telecommunications provider O2 Telefónica has upgraded a mobile site in Buchloe, the gateway to the Allgäu region, to 5G. This upgrade, now operational, provides residents, commuters, and travelers with faster, stable 5G mobile connectivity in Buchloe and its surroundings[1][2].
The new 5G frequency's range of several kilometers ensures that the entire town of Buchloe is well-covered by the O2 mobile network[1]. This aligns with O2’s broader coverage across Germany, where about 98 percent of the population already has access to 5G as of mid-2025[2].
The benefits of this 5G expansion include enhanced mobile internet speeds and more reliable connections for online activities like streaming, working remotely, and using digital services. Improved digital inclusion in a rural area supports social and economic participation through better connectivity. The upgrade also aids commuters and travelers with seamless mobile connectivity, facilitating digital experiences related to local culture and tourism[1].
Buchloe, with its observatory, local museum, and numerous recreational facilities, now benefits from smoother mobile surfing due to the faster connection technology. This upgrade is part of O2 Telefónica's continued network expansion in the Allgäu region, aiming to create an even more powerful network for everyone.
As a strong-growing provider in the business solutions segment, O2 Telefónica offers services such as voice and internet connections and digital services like the Internet of Things and data analysis. In the fiscal year 2024, O2 Telefónica generated revenues of 8.5 billion euros with around 7,800 employees[3].
In fixed networks, O2 Telefónica offers its customers leading technological diversity and geographical availability in Germany. As of 30.06.2025, O2 Telefónica cares for 34.7 million mobile connections, making it the leading mobile provider in the consumer market and in the market for innovative partner offers[4].
Mallik Rao, Chief Technology and Business Customer Officer of O2 Telefónica, stated that the company is maintaining a high pace of expansion to drive Germany forward digitally[5]. The upgrade of over 1,000 mobile sites to 5G is part of this ongoing expansion, ensuring that more towns and cities across Germany can enjoy the benefits of 5G technology.
