Performing Music Videos Featuring Continuum and Sapphire on Stage
In a spectacular fusion of music and visual art, film and TV editor Andy Young has been instrumental in creating captivating on-stage assets for Motion City Soundtrack's 20th anniversary tour of their seminal record, "I Am The Movie".
Young, known for his work with Boris FX plugins, has employed a variety of tools to bring the band's music to life visually. Using BCC+ Color Gradient to pair with film looks and enhance the visuals, he also utilised BCC+ Film Stocks and S_FilmDamage to soften pixels and achieve desired looks.
For the energetic track, LG FUAD, Young took a more experimental approach, combining BCC Turbulence and BCC Posterize Time to create a 'squigglevision' aesthetic. He also used BCC Spray Paint Noise and S_Cartoon Paint effects to add a dynamic and stylised touch.
In addition to these techniques, Young employed BCC Prism effects to distort and make overlays more alive and dynamic. He also used Boris FX plugins Sapphire and Continuum to create various on-stage assets.
Notable moments in the tour include the opening sequence, which features old footage of Motion City Soundtrack from 2003, and the use of live images, made possible by Kay Dargen's permission.
Lead singer Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack praised Young's work, with his creations resonating with fellow die-hard fans of the band. Shane Nelson made the other half of the stage videos for the tour.
