Police seeking potential witnesses for investigation into alleged computer-related fraud incidents

Unidentified individual acquired vast sums of money, extracted from various bank accounts, through repeated withdrawals using duplicate Europay, Mastercard, and Visa (EC) cards, spanning the period from March to September 2024.

Duisburg, Germany - The North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) Police have issued a wanted persons appeal for an individual suspected of committing credit card fraud. Between March and September 2024, an unknown perpetrator used duplicated credit cards obtained through the skimming method to withdraw several thousand euros from multiple bank accounts.

The suspect has been active in various cities across NRW, including Duisburg, Essen, Oberhausen, Gelsenkirchen, Mettmann, Bochum, Wesel, Dorsten, Neuss, Ratingen, Düsseldorf, Herne, Kassel (Hessen), Braunschweig (Niedersachsen), and Garbsen (Niedersachsen).

The Duisburg Police have also provided three tips to prevent skimming:

  1. Be vigilant when using your credit card at ATMs, petrol stations, or other public places. Look for any signs of tampering or unusual devices.
  2. Cover your hand when entering your PIN to prevent any potential cameras from capturing it.
  3. Regularly check your bank statements for any unusual activities and report any suspicious transactions immediately.
