r2b Unveils Innovative PV System Models for Long-Term Profit
r2b Energy Consulting has unveiled innovative models that holistically optimize photovoltaic (PV) system configurations. The models consider grid connections, plant design, storage solutions, and market values, ensuring long-term economic viability. Key strategies include overbuilding grid connections and combining plants with storage systems.
r2b's approach involves analyzing all possible on-site constellations to maximize PV system efficiency. They propose overbuilding grid connections, accepting some clipped generation during low-price hours, but capturing more valuable generation at other times. Overbuild factors up to 2 are practical, depending on available area.
On-site storage solutions are increasingly common due to decreasing battery costs. Combining a plant with storage can result in additional profit, providing flexibility for future changes. However, large open-space installations face challenges like limited network connection capacities, volatile electricity prices, and complex subsidy systems.
Alternative system designs can alter energy generation structure, producing more in transition months and mornings/afternoons. Using east-west orientation can increase short-term revenues to around 1.65 million euros compared to classical south-facing orientation.
Market forces now drive the expansion of photovoltaics in Germany, crucial for achieving climate goals. A 20-megawatt PV open-space plant with south-facing orientation produces around 22 gigawatt-hours of electricity per year, generating about 1.3 million euros. Equipping the same plant with a 30-megawatt module capacity can increase revenues to around 1.6 million euros despite lower midday prices.
r2b Energy Consulting's innovative models optimize PV system configurations, ensuring long-term economic viability. By overbuilding grid connections and combining plants with storage systems, they help maximize revenues and provide flexibility. As photovoltaics expand in Germany, driven by market forces, these strategies can significantly contribute to the country's climate goals.
