Rediscovered Hot Hatch Icon: Peugeot E-208 GTi Makes Spectacular Return

"Peugeot's Legendary GTi Hits the Road Again - This Time Electrified!"

The iconic Peugeot 205 GTi, a hot hatch fan-favorite, is making a return with a twist. Say hello to the new Peugeot E-208 GTi, an all-electric model that packs a punch but with fewer emissions and a modern twist.

With the current 208 model nearing its end, Peugeot decided to kick things up a notch before the 2027 model change. They're reviving an old tradition by introducing an electric GTi version of the compact car, last seen in the first generation of the 208 between 2013 and 2018.

Unlike its predecessor, the E-208 GTi comes as a five-door, edging closer to the three-door 205 GTi. Visually, it retains the sporty essence of the historic model, but with some tweaks. The track width gets a boost by 6 cm at the front and 3 cm at the rear, while the body sits 3 cm lower. Striking 18-inch lightweight alloy wheels with high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires and larger front brake discs (355 mm) highlight its sporting aspirations. The rear gets a black diffuser with integrated LED rear fog light, contrasting with the otherwise red-painted body.

Under the hood, the E-208 GTi is inspired by the Abarth 600e Scorpionissima from the same Stellantis group. The Peugeot equivalent belts out 207 kW/280 PS and generates 345 Nm of torque, with power sent to the front wheels, aided by a limited-slip differential. The 0-100 km/h sprint takes 5.7 seconds, albeit electronically capped at 180 km/h.

Inside, the 208 GTi screams GTi-style: Red accents, a flat-bottomed steering wheel bearings the GTi logo, Alcantara trim, and sports seats with a mix of perforated leather and Alcantara. The side bolsters promise everyday comfort even with the pronounced seats.

The battery is the same 54 kWh as the standard model, but due to the performance requirements, the range drops to about 350 km. The French automaker hasn't announced an official price yet, but the related Abarth model retails around €49,000. Expect the E-208 GTi to hit the roads later this year, priced slightly lower and equipped with fewer bells and whistles.
