Renault Confirms UK Customer Data Breach as Jaguar Land Rover Recovers from Cyber Attack
French car giant Renault has confirmed a cyber breach affecting UK customer personal data. The company has apologized to those affected and assured them that data privacy is a top priority. Meanwhile, rival Jaguar Land Rover continues to recover from a cyber attack that halted production for a month, with some operations expected to restart in the coming days.
Renault UK confirmed a cyberattack on one of their external data processors on today's date, October 2025. The stolen data includes names, addresses, dates of birth, gender, phone numbers, vehicle identification numbers, and vehicle registration details. However, no financial data or password data was compromised in the attack. Renault Group UK's third-party data processing business was the target of the hackers.
The UK government has stepped in to support Jaguar Land Rover, offering a £1.5 billion loan guarantee to help the company's suppliers. JLR's production shutdown is estimated to cost the group around £120 million and has left suppliers in limbo. Other businesses, such as Asahi, Marks & Spencer, and Kido Schools, have also been hit by major cyber attacks in recent months.
Renault is contacting affected customers and advising them to be cautious of unsolicited requests for personal information. The company has not disclosed the name of the third-party provider or specific attack details. Meanwhile, JLR continues to work towards restarting its production operations, with some expected to resume in the coming days.
