Renault Confirms UK Customer Data Breach, JLR Recovers from August Cyber Attack
French car giant Renault has confirmed a cyber breach affecting UK customer personal data. The company has apologized to those affected, stating that data privacy is a top priority.
The breach occurred after a third-party data processing company used by Renault Group UK, Horizon Core VSSI, was targeted by hackers. Some personal data of British customers was taken from one of Renault's systems. The accessed data includes customer names, addresses, dates of birth, gender, phone numbers, vehicle identification numbers, and vehicle registration details. However, no financial data or password data was compromised in the attack.
Renault is now contacting affected customers and advising them to be cautious of unsolicited requests for personal information. Meanwhile, rival Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) continues to work on recovering and restarting its global operations after a cyber attack in August. JLR expects to restart some production within 'the coming days', initially at its engine factory in Wolverhampton. The production shutdown is estimated to hit the group's bottom line by around £120 million.
Renault has assured affected customers that their data privacy is a priority and is taking steps to mitigate the impact of the breach. JLR, having faced a similar issue in August, is working towards resuming operations and minimizing financial losses.
