Rivian secures its first significant fleet contract excluding Amazon, with HelloFresh as the recipient party.
In a significant step towards a greener future, Rivian, the American electric vehicle manufacturer, has made substantial inroads in the commercial sector, particularly with companies like HelloFresh, AT&T, and Ben & Jerry's.
Since the rollout began, Rivian vans driven by HelloFresh have covered over 250,000 miles (402,000km), helping the food delivery giant avoid the use of approximately 20,000 gallons of gasoline. This partnership is a key step for Rivian in proving its commercial vans can meet the demands of large-scale clients outside Amazon, its largest commercial partner.
HelloFresh has integrated Rivian vans into 14 major markets in the United States, and the company has recently received 70 all-electric commercial vans from Rivian, marking its first major fleet customer since opening commercial sales beyond Amazon earlier this year. To support this new EV fleet, HelloFresh has installed over 100 charging stations across its network.
Ben & Jerry's, the renowned ice cream company, has also partnered with Rivian to deploy electric scoop trucks as part of their fleet transition from fossil fuels. Meanwhile, AT&T has entered a deal to purchase Rivian vans and R1 vehicles for its commercial fleet and will be the exclusive provider of internet connectivity for Rivian commercial vehicles in the US and Canada.
The Rivian Commercial Van is purposefully built for last-mile delivery, allowing for fewer instances of turning the vehicle on and off, manual sliding of doors, and traffic idling. This design not only enhances efficiency but also contributes to a reduction in carbon emissions. In fact, Rivian vans driven by HelloFresh have resulted in a reduction of over 200 metric tons of carbon emissions.
With the end of the exclusivity agreement with Amazon in late 2023, Rivian now has the opportunity to expand to other buyers. As of early 2025, Amazon had more than 20,000 Rivian vans in its fleet, but the company is no longer the manufacturer's sole commercial partner.
Ben Kubik, Senior Program Manager of Last-Mile Logistics at HelloFresh, has noted that the range of the Rivian vans has opened up delivery routes that weren't previously possible with other EVs. As more companies adopt sustainable practices, Rivian's electric vans are playing a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and promoting a greener future.
