Ruger & Magpul's RXM Handgun & Winchester's .21 Sharp Cartridge Set to Disrupt Markets
The firearm industry is abuzz with two significant developments. Ruger and Magpul have collaborated to launch the Ruger RXM, a semi-automatic handgun that could disrupt the market. Meanwhile, Winchester introduces the .21 Sharp, a new rimfire cartridge. Both innovations are set to make waves in their respective segments.
The Ruger RXM, priced to appeal to both gun enthusiasts and first-time buyers, is a chassis-based, polymer-frame, striker-fired pistol. It shares compatibility with some internal components, magazines, and holsters of a popular handgun brand, making it an attractive option for those already invested in that ecosystem.
The RXM is one of two major developments covered in the current issue. The other is Winchester's .21 Sharp, a new rimfire cartridge. Similar in dimension to the .22 Long Rifle but not interchangeable, it offers a broader range of non-heeled projectiles, including copper matrix for areas where lead is banned. This innovation is expected to make inroads in the significant rimfire ammunition market segment.
Looking ahead, the 154th NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Atlanta from April 24-27 promises to showcase the latest firearms, optics, ammunition, and accessories. Additionally, the April 19, 2025, issue will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution's 'shot heard round the world' in Lexington and Concord, Mass.
The Ruger RXM and Winchester .21 Sharp are set to shake up the handgun and rimfire ammunition markets respectively. As the industry continues to innovate, enthusiasts and first-time buyers alike have much to look forward to in the coming months and years.
