Sandisk Displaying UltraQLC Platform Boasting Enterprise-Level SSD Capacity at FMS 2025

Sandisk, a leading name in the storage industry, has made a significant stride with the launch of its new 256TB NVMe enterprise SSD, built on the innovative UltraQLC platform. This new SSD is designed to address AI-driven, data-intensive enterprise workloads, setting a new benchmark for hyperscale flash storage.

The UltraQLC platform is a testament to Sandisk's advancements in NAND architecture, incorporating BiCS8 QLC CBA NAND, custom controllers, and advanced system optimizations. Key innovations in the UltraQLC platform include Direct Write QLC, BiCS8 2Tb QLC NAND die, Dynamic Frequency Scaling, Scalable Multi-core Controller, and Data Retention (DR) profile.

Direct Write QLC eliminates the traditional SLC buffering step, enabling power-loss safe writes directly on the first pass, improving write efficiency and data integrity during power failures. The BiCS8 2Tb QLC NAND die doubles storage density without increasing the die size, enabling the unprecedented 256TB capacity in a standard U.2 form factor. Dynamic Frequency Scaling is a power optimization feature projected to boost performance by up to 10% for the same power consumption level, enhancing energy efficiency and throughput.

The Scalable Multi-core Controller is designed to handle extremely high throughput and endurance at massive capacities, supporting robust and resilient performance under demanding workloads. The Data Retention (DR) profile reduces data retention recycles by up to 33%, which improves drive reliability, resilience, and reduces power consumption by minimizing repetitive retention processes.

These innovations collectively enable the UltraQLC platform to address AI-driven, data-intensive enterprise workloads effectively, with enhanced performance, reliability, power efficiency, and maximum storage density. The SSD offers high-performance speeds and power efficiency, making it suitable for data ingest, preparation, and fast AI data lakes.

Sandisk will showcase this milestone SSD, alongside additional innovative storage solutions, at FMS Booth #607. Khurram Ismail, Chief Product Officer at Sandisk, stated that the UltraQLC platform is a culmination of years of work and learnings, aiming to improve TCO for high-capacity applications in hyperscale cloud. Sandisk will also host a keynote at FMS 2025 on Wednesday, August 6, at 11:40 AM, to highlight its UltraQLC platform.

The new SANDISK 256TB NVMe SSD is not the only innovation from Sandisk. The company has also announced that the SANDISK SN670 128TB NVMe SSD and SANDISK UltraQLC 256TB NVMe SSD will be available in U.2 form factor in the first half of 2026.

In conclusion, Sandisk's UltraQLC platform and the resulting 256TB NVMe SSD represent a significant leap forward in storage technology, offering unprecedented capacity, performance, and power efficiency for AI-driven, data-intensive workloads.
