Security Forces Arrest 7 Rebels, Seize Weapons and Drugs in Manipur
Security forces in Manipur have dealt a significant blow to rebel activities, arresting seven rebels and seizing a substantial cache of weapons and drugs. The operation targeted members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the People's Liberation Army (PLA)/Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), with their leader Irengbam Chaoren believed to be involved in the social security operations.
The arrests took place across four districts: Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kakching. The rebels were found to be involved in recruiting youths for the RPF/PLA, extortion, and mediation through intimidation. The recovered arms included a mix of firearms and locally made guns, totaling a 9 mm carbine submachine gun, a .303 rifle, a 9 mm pistol, a .32 pistol, ten locally made guns, and a pull mechanism rifle. Additionally, a large cache of ammunition was seized from Imphal West and Kangpokpi districts.
In a separate operation, security forces recovered 2,000 methamphetamine tablets, also known as Yaba tablets, worth approximately Rs 16.66 lakh from a house in Churachandpur district. This seizure is part of ongoing efforts to curb the illegal drug trade in the region, particularly along the borders with Myanmar and Mizoram where Churachandpur has become a hotspot.
The successful operation by security forces has resulted in the dismantling of a significant network involved in rebel activities and the illegal drug trade. The seized arms and drugs are expected to disrupt further criminal activities and contribute to the maintenance of peace and security in Manipur.
