Skoda redesigns legendary L&K motorbike
Skoda has revealed a new concept car that pays homage to its rich history while embracing the electric age. The concept, designed by Romain Bucaille, is a reinterpretation of the Slavia B motorcycle, a significant vehicle in the company's past.
The design of the concept features elements that are becoming synonymous with Skoda's evolving design identity. Clean contours, crisp edges, and a distinctive lighting signature are identified as key design features. The bold vertical line separating the front and rear sections highlights the balance between nostalgic elements and innovative design.
Romain Bucaille, a motorcycle enthusiast, found the project a refreshing creative challenge. He expressed a desire to connect the design to Skoda's roots, referencing Václav Laurin's early work on motorcycle geometry and control in the front of the concept. The Slavia B motorcycle was originally designed and built under the Laurin & Klement brand, which later became Skoda Auto.
The area typically occupied by a combustion engine in the original design is now open, with the Laurin & Klement name appearing suspended within the frame. Design elements such as a minimal, floating seat and an integrated leather tool bag pay homage to the bike's sporting legacy.
The new concept retains the signature frame silhouette of the original Slavia B but has been 'reinterpreted for the electric age.' Skoda's latest concept car is, therefore, electric and does not include a combustion engine, reflecting its modern reboot.
The design of the concept was led by Romain Bucaille, who typically works on Skoda car exteriors. Bucaille began the design process with pencil sketches, marking a return to traditional drawing methods. The final concept is described as a 'futuristic café racer' in Skoda's Modern Solid style.
Skoda plans to develop more re-imagined iconic models in the future. However, the reinterpretation of the Slavia B is not planned for production, but serves as a 'statement of intent' for Skoda's future vision.
In summary, Skoda's latest concept car is a testament to the brand's commitment to blending its rich history with modern design and technology. The electric 'futuristic café racer' is a unique and exciting addition to Skoda's portfolio, and a promising glimpse into the brand's future.
