SpaceX Successfully Deploys a Sirius XM Radio Satellite into Orbit, Recovers Rocket on an Ocean Vessel (Multimedia Coverage)
Rocket Up! SpaceX's Trusty Falcon 9 Blasts Off Once Again
Jump on board our website as we witness SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket soaring through the skies once more! Early Saturday morning (June 7), the SpaceX Falcon 9 launched the SXM-10 satellite for SiriusXM, marking another notch in SpaceX's impressive belt of missions.
The countdown began at Florida's Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 12:54 a.m. EDT (0454 GMT). A powerful Falcon 9 rocket, carrying SXM-10, streaked across the night sky, leaving a trail of stardust behind.
Following an 8.5-minute journey, the rocket's first stage gracefully returned to Earth, touching down upon the SpaceX drone ship "A Shortfall of Gravitas" stationed in the Atlantic Ocean. This marked the eighth launch and landing for this particular booster, demonstrating SpaceX's remarkable reusability technology.
A glimpse into the past reveals that this veteran Falcon 9 has served on various missions, including the Crew-9 and Fram2 astronaut flights, and the historic launch on Jan. 15, 2025 that propelled two private moon landers, Firefly Aero's Blue Ghost and Interstellar Technologies' Resilience, toward Earth's neighboring satellite. While Blue Ghost aced its lunar touchdown on March 2, 2025, Resilience met a less fortunate end during its landing attempt on June 5, 2025.
The Falcon 9's upper stage carried SXM-10 to a geosynchronous transfer orbit high above Earth, deploying the satellite there about 33 minutes post-launch. The 14,100-pound (6,400 kilograms) satellite, built by Maxar Technologies, will now maneuver its way into SiriusXM's radio constellation, bolstering its capabilities.
Hang tight as weitness SpaceX's second launch for SiriusXM in just six months; a Falcon 9 catapulted the SXM-9 satellite aloft in early December 2025.
As of May 2025, SpaceX has launched 69 Falcon 9 missions in 2025, with half of them dedicated to building out the company's Starlink broadband megaconstellation in low Earth orbit. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming launches, with a scheduled Falcon 9 rocket launch slated for June 12, 2025, spreading more Starlink satellites across the skies!
