Steel rendition of the 42mm Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Diver is now available.
In an exciting development, luxury Swiss watchmaker Blancpain has unveiled a new version of its iconic Fifty Fathoms Automatique timepiece, this time crafted in stainless steel. This material departure from the typical titanium or gold cases of the Fifty Fathoms offers a more classic and affordable alternative, while maintaining the watch's renowned durability and water resistance.
The new stainless steel Fifty Fathoms boasts a thickness of 14.3mm and offers 300m of water resistance, making it suitable for deep-sea diving adventures. The watch features a black sunburst dial with lumed hands, Liquidmetal hour markers, and a date window at 4:30. The unidirectional diving bezel, a key feature of the Fifty Fathoms, comes with a ceramic insert, while the steel bezel is satin-brushed for a sleek finish.
Under the hood, the watch is powered by the in-house Caliber 1315 automatic movement, which offers a power reserve of 120 hours. The movement's rotor is blackened gold and can be viewed through the caseback.
Some purists argue that the classic appearance of stainless steel makes it more appealing than titanium, despite titanium's superior strength-to-weight ratio. However, the new stainless steel Fifty Fathoms does not have the same specific hue as titanium.
The new stainless steel Fifty Fathoms Automatique is not limited in edition size and is available on Blancpain's website. The watch comes with four band options: a stainless steel bracelet, a NATO strap, a Tropic-style rubber strap, and a sailcloth fabric strap. For the Australian market, the recommended retail price is around AU$ 29,700, with the pricing for the new Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Automatique starting from approximately CHF 14,000 for the base models and going up to CHF 28,500 depending on the configuration.
This marks the first time the 42mm version of the Fifty Fathoms has been made in stainless steel, offering a more accessible price point for watch enthusiasts who appreciate the timeless design and exceptional craftsmanship that Blancpain is known for.
