Tesla Initiates Delivery of Model YL Six-Seater Vehicles in China, Commencing in September
Tesla's Model Y Long Range Now Available in China
Tesla has expanded its Model Y lineup with the introduction of the Model Y Long Range (Model Y L) in China. This extended version of the popular crossover SUV can accommodate six passengers across three rows of seats.
The Model Y L boasts a longer wheelbase of 3.04 meters, achieved by an increase in length, which grows by approximately 18 centimeters to 4.98 meters. Despite the extended length, the width remains the same as the current Model Y. The height increases slightly, but the changes are subtle.
The roofline of the Model Y L has been slightly altered, and the rear is finished with a more pronounced spoiler. The exterior resembles the known Model Y from the outside, but with an extended body, particularly noticeable from the side.
Under the hood, the Model Y L is currently available with 19-inch wheels. It comes equipped with an 82 kWh battery, offering a range of 715 kilometers per charge. While this range is impressive, it is approximately 5% less than the Model Y Long Range AWD with the same battery and drive.
Inside the vehicle, Tesla has placed more emphasis on comfort. The Model Y L features extended thigh support for the front seats, a 16-inch touchscreen, wireless charging for electronics at up to 50 watts, heated and cooled second-row seats, and 19 speakers for music distribution throughout the vehicle.
Passengers in the rear of the Model Y L receive air-conditioned air through vents in the C-pillar. A light interior package is planned as an option, but it is not yet available. The rear and middle rows can be electrically folded down to create a flat surface for transport or sleeping.
Deliveries of the Model Y L in China are expected to begin in September. The all-wheel-drive version of the Model Y L is priced at 339,000 Renminbi (around 40,500 Euros). The Model Y L can be ordered in China with a two-seater bench in the third row that can be heated but not cooled.
Early rumors suggested that the Model Y L would only be sold in China, but a hacker discovered software hints in June indicating that Tesla plans to offer the Model Y L worldwide at a later date. While Tesla has not yet officially announced the market launch of the Model Y L in the West, it is likely to be available there following its release in China.
It is worth noting that Tesla will likely offer the extended six-seat version of the Model Y L in European markets such as Germany, where large models like the Model S and Model X are no longer configurable as new vehicles. However, it will not be available in the USA before the end of next year, and possibly never, according to Elon Musk.
In conclusion, the Model Y L offers an extended range and increased comfort for passengers, making it an attractive option for those seeking a spacious and efficient electric vehicle. With its impressive range and luxurious features, the Model Y L is set to make a significant impact in the electric vehicle market.
