Tesla Manufactures Half a Million Model Ys at Giga Berlin, Celebrating an Impressive Achievement
Tesla's Giga Berlin Hits 100,000 Model Y Produced
Tesla's Gigafactory Berlin, located in Germany, has reached a significant milestone by producing its 100,000th unit of the refreshed Model Y. The factory, which officially opened in March 2022, has been ramping up production at an impressive pace, currently producing more than 6,000 vehicles per week using advanced manufacturing techniques like gigacasting and automation.
The production of the refreshed Model Y at Giga Berlin began around mid-January 2025. The updated Model Y includes various improvements over previous versions to maintain competitiveness in the market. The facility's progress has been notable despite initial delays due to regulatory hurdles and environmental concerns.
The first unit of the new Model Y produced at Giga Berlin was completed on January 14, 2025, and signed by the factory's 12,000 employees. The new Model Y features ventilated front seats, a rear-seat infotainment screen, a softer suspension, blind-spot monitors, new wheels, quieter tires, and improved sound insulation.
Giga Berlin is becoming an increasingly critical facility for Tesla’s global sales strategy, especially for the European market where demand for the refreshed Model Y and its variants continues to grow strongly. The factory will likely produce Model Y Performance and Model Y L variants for Europe, supporting Tesla’s expansion in Europe and helping optimize global supply chains.
The shift of some Model Y production to Giga Berlin has also enabled Tesla to improve pricing competitiveness in markets like Canada, benefiting from lower logistics costs and eligibility for regional subsidies.
The new Model Y was unveiled in China on January 9, 2025, and European deliveries are expected to start soon, though Tesla has yet to open orders for the refreshed model in the region.
In late March 2023, deliveries of the special 'Launch Edition' Model Y, featuring exclusive badging and Full Self-Driving capabilities, began in the U.S. and Canada from Giga Texas and California factories. The new Model Y was first produced at Giga Shanghai, receiving over 100,000 orders within two weeks of its launch in China, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Giga Shanghai produced its 500,000th Tesla Model Y on March 31, 2025.
Future plans for Giga Berlin include continuing as a central hub for Model Y production in Europe, expanding capacity further to meet growing demand. The factory exclusively builds Model Y units, positioning it to roll out new variants such as the Model Y Performance and the recently launched Model Y L.
The rapid pace of the new Model Y rollout and the factory's latest milestone signal a strong trajectory for Tesla in the EV market. Tesla's Giga Berlin plans to scale production to 1 million vehicles annually as part of the company's global strategy.
