Tesla's inaugural charging station in India set for August 4 launch
Tesla Unveils Plans for Expansion in India, Aims to Establish Wide-reaching Charging Infrastructure
Tesla, the American electric vehicle company, has announced plans to roll out eight Supercharger stations in India by the near term, focusing initially on key urban centers including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The timeline for this expansion is as follows:
- The first Supercharger station opened on August 4, 2025, at One BKC, Mumbai, featuring 4 V4 DC fast chargers. In Delhi-NCR, Tesla is operationalizing a station in Gurugram within weeks (after early August 2025), with planned stations in Saket (South Delhi) and Noida.
- Mumbai will expand beyond the Bandra Kurla Complex location to include Lower Parel, Navi Mumbai, and Thane. Bengaluru will start operations with a supercharger and service center soon after, with infrastructure expected to expand to match Delhi and Mumbai.
- Tesla’s rollout commitment is short-term focused without publicly detailing a 5-year plan but promising expansion ahead of September 2025 deliveries.
The Model Y, Tesla's maiden offering for India, can add up to 267 km of range in just 15 minutes with Tesla Superchargers. Each Tesla supercharging stall will have a peak charging speed of 250 kW, starting at ₹24 per kWh. Destination chargers in the station will provide charging at ₹14 per kWh.
Tesla Model Y deliveries in India are expected to start from September. The vehicle, available in Standard and Long Range variants, comes with a CCS2 charging port, making it compatible with other fast charging stations. The prices for the Tesla Model Y in India start at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
To ease the charging process, Tesla will open its second experience centre in Delhi, likely in Aerocity. The payment process for the charging station will be available on the Tesla app on a smartphone.
The Model Y's built-in navigation system guides to the nearest supercharging station, ensuring seamless travel for owners. With the first Supercharger station in Mumbai located near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the Gateway of India, the Model Y can complete five trips between these two points with a full charge from the Tesla Superchargers.
The Tesla Supercharging network has an uptime of 99.95%, ensuring minimal disruptions for users. With this expansion, Tesla aims to establish a well-distributed charging infrastructure ahead of and concurrent with vehicle deliveries starting in September 2025.
