Elden Ring Nightreign's Unfortunate Ultrawide Omission
The absence of a particular feature in Elden Ring Nightreign on PC leaves me bewildered and infuriated.
FromSoftware's ambitious co-op roguelike spinoff Elden Ring Nightreign has hit the Windows PC and Steam scene, with console releases imminent. Despite the day one patch warnings of potential framerate hiccups with high-end graphics, the game has run smooth as silk for me during my two-week playthrough for the review, sans any framerate issues.
Yet, I can't help but raise a gripe - the glaring omission of ultrawide support. Now, if the image below doesn't shout "what's this reviewer's beef," let me shed some light:
That's right, lackluster ultrawide support is the issue. To put it simply, Elden Ring Nightreign stumbles when it comes to accommodating ultrawide aspect ratios. Sadly, this omission isn't unique to Nightreign in FromSoftware's PC catalog, with nearly all their games falling short in this regard, including the entire Dark Souls series, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and even Elden Ring itself.
However, we witnessed a glimmer of hope with 2023's Armored Core 6, which offered ultrawide support, raising hopes that we'd see it in Elden Ring Nightreign. But here we are in 2025, stuck with the same disappointment.
While most PC gamers may not rock an ultrawide setup, it's a sizable chunk of the community - one that I belong to. I can't fathom why FromSoftware persists in restricting players from enjoying their stunningly crafted worlds on a wider canvas. The notion that this restriction provides an in-game advantage seems utterly far-fetched, especially in third-person action RPGs like these.
You might think that the game's engine is the culprit, but Armored Core 6 managed to offer ultrawide support, built on the same engine as Nightreign. Furthermore, the modding community came together, releasing ultrawide mods for Elden Ring just days after its release, and, alas, you can't utilize these online without incurring a ban due to detectable changes in the game files.
In conclusion, my only conclusion is that FromSoftware simply doesn't deem ultrawide support a feature worth considering for their Soulsborne RPGs, which is nothing short of beyond maddening, considering all I want to do is immerse myself in their breathtaking worlds on a wider display. I can't help but feel a twinge of hope that ultrawide support might sneak its way into a future patch, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

- The absence of ultrawide support in Elden Ring Nightreign is a concern, especially since it's visible in almost all of FromSoftware's PC games, like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and the entire Dark Souls series.
- Interestingly, Armored Core 6, also from FromSoftware, supported ultrawide aspect ratios, raising expectations that Elden Ring Nightreign would follow suit.
- For PC gamers with ultrawide setups, the lack of ultrawide support can be frustrating, particularly when the modding community has already released mods for the game but online use is restricted due to changes in the game files.
- Despite the prevalence of ultrawide monitors in the gaming community, it seems that FromSoftware doesn't prioritize ultrawide support in their Soulsborne RPGs, such as Elden Ring Nightreign.
- The modding community has shown that it's possible to enjoy Elden Ring on an ultrawide monitor, but the inability to use these mods online due to detectable changes in the game files is a significant drawback.
