"The Installation of the Largest 'World's Largest' JBL Professional SRX 900 Series Delivers Powerful K-POP Performances and More"
The KBS Arena, originally known as the KBS 88 Seoul Olympics Arena, has undergone a significant transformation, thanks to a major audio upgrade using JBL Professional sound systems. The renovation aims to provide an enhanced experience for attendees, making it a perfect venue for future landmark performances.
The project involved the installation of a line array sound system from JBL Professional, with a total of 30 SRX910LA speakers set up, 15 each for the left and right channels. To ensure optimal sound quality across all seating areas, several key considerations and steps were taken.
System Design and Configuration
The sound system was designed to cover all areas of the arena effectively. This involved calculating the optimal placement and angle of speakers to achieve uniform sound distribution. JBL speakers suitable for large venues, such as line arrays or point-source speakers, were chosen to provide clear sound at high volumes over long distances.
Equalization and Calibration
Digital equalizers were used to fine-tune the sound system's frequency response. Settings were adjusted for a balanced sound that complements the arena's acoustics, smoothing out any resonant frequencies that might cause sound distortion or unevenness. Extensive sound checks were performed to adjust the system's calibration, ensuring that every seat receives the same level of sound quality.
System Integration
High-quality amplifiers and processors were used to handle the demands of the JBL system. These components should be able to power multiple speakers and manage the complex audio signals required for a large arena. A networked system was implemented, allowing centralized control and monitoring, enabling real-time adjustments and ensuring smooth operation during events.
Subwoofer Placement
Strategically placing subwoofers enhanced bass response across the arena. For example, under-seat subwoofers or strategically placing them in areas where sound would otherwise be weak improved overall sound quality.
Regular Maintenance and Upgrades
Regular inspections and maintenance tasks were implemented to ensure optimal performance. Future upgrades and expansions were considered by choosing systems that are modular and can be easily integrated with new technologies.
The new installation of the JBL SRX900 series loudspeakers provides optimal sound quality that is consistent across all seating areas. Eighteen SRX928S subwoofers are installed under the stage for low-frequency emphasis. Performance organizers now prefer to use the in-house JBL Professional equipment without bringing their own sound system.
Oh-Sang Kwon, the manager of KBS Sports World and KBS Arena, stated a commitment to attracting more performances and specializing as a world-class venue for festival performances, including indie, rock bands, and hip-hop. In recent years, KBS Arena has adapted to digital media by incorporating eticketing systems and enhancing its online presence.
Amar Subash, VP and GM of HARMAN Professional Solutions, APAC, expressed gratitude to TechDataPS for executing the project at KBS Arena. The JBL SRX900 series has gained significant global recognition, with South Korea being the top market for sales outside of the U.S. The speakers provide clear sound up to 30 meters away. In 2012, KBS Arena underwent renovation and modernization, including the installation of LED screens, expanding parking spaces, and improving accessibility.
- The upgraded sound system at the KBS Arena, now featuring JBL Professional SRX900 series loudspeakers, promises an exceptional audio experience, offering clear sound up to 30 meters away.
- With the addition of 18 SRX928S subwoofers under the stage, the arena's bass response is significantly improved, creating optimal sound quality across all seating areas.
- In an effort to attract more performances and position themselves as a world-class venue for festivals, including indie, rock, and hip-hop events, KBS Sports World and KBS Arena are now preferable choices for organizers seeking a state-of-the-art sound system without needing to bring their own equipment.
