Energizing Thuringia's Digital Evolution: Steffen Schutz's Vision
Accelerating Digital Transformation in Thuringia under Schutz's Leadership - Thuringia's Digital Transformation Needs an Acceleration, According to Schütz
Fueling the digital transformation of governmental administration and public institutions in Thuringia is the ambition of its Infrastructure Minister, Steffen Schutz (BSW). A novel GovTech Campus, nestled in Erfurt, is slated to embark upon this journey, marking the first of its kind in Central Germany.
This versatile hub will soon spring to life as "an innovation playground, a digital classroom, and a melting pot for sharing knowledge with digital frontrunners,” explained Minister Schutz. The aim is to swiftly and effectively develop user-friendly digital services for both Thuringia’s citizens and businesses, by pooling digital expertise.
Solidifying partnerships with neighboring federal states is a key aspect of the Minister's digital vision. For instance, Bavaria has already become a member of GovTech Campus Germany e.V. since August 2024. This association provides an infrastructure for state and administrative innovation projects and connects them with suitable tech partners—from IT service providers to research institutions like the Fraunhofer Institute. Sharing digital know-how is what it’s all about, stated the Thuringia Minister for Digitalization.
The Erfurt campus will focus on bridging the gap between legislation and digital compatibility, making administrative services less burdensome through improved digitization. Base-laying research projects from the University of Jena in the field of E-Government and secure AI use in authorities take center stage here. "Laws that take advantage of advanced digital technologies will significantly boost the state and administration's agility," asserted Schutz.
GovTech Campus Germany e.V. offers a platform for collaboration between the federal government, states, and municipalities, enabling them to tap into the German and European tech scene. This week, the Thuringian Digital Advisory Board held its inaugural meeting. Comprising 19 independent experts, this committee provides counsel to the state government for two years.
