Tokayev Meets ITU Chief, Vows to Boost Digital Cooperation
President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev met with Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), to discuss digital and telecommunications cooperation between Kazakhstan and the global organisation. The meeting marked the 160th anniversary of the ITU.
During the meeting, President Tokayev praised the ITU's role in global digital cooperation and congratulated Doreen Bogdan-Martin on the anniversary. He emphasised the importance of forming a modern digital ecosystem and developing infrastructure in Kazakhstan. The prospects for cooperation between Kazakhstan and the ITU were discussed, with a focus on digital and telecommunications technologies.
Doreen Bogdan-Martin appreciated Kazakhstan's efforts in developing the digital industry and implementing artificial intelligence technologies. She expressed the ITU's readiness to further deepen partnership with Kazakhstan and expand joint initiatives. Despite Kazakhstan not being publicly known as an active participant in projects with low-earth orbit satellite systems like OneWeb, Starlink, Amazon Kuiper, or Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology under international organisations, the ITU sees potential for collaboration in this area.
The meeting between President Tokayev and Doreen Bogdan-Martin highlights Kazakhstan's commitment to digital development and its willingness to cooperate with international organisations like the ITU. Both parties expressed their eagerness to deepen their partnership and explore new initiatives in digital and telecommunications technologies.
