Tokyo Auto Salon 2025: Weird, Wonderful, and Ready for Anything

The Tokyo Auto Salon, a unique event focused on custom cars, has once again showcased a delightful mix of weird and wonderful vehicles. This year's edition featured ultra-compact campers, restomods, and eccentric custom jobs, including a winning sedan and a disaster response vehicle.

Smile Factory, known for its tiny campers, displayed the Off Time Base model, a compact Kei car minivan that can sleep four. Meanwhile, Nissan introduced the Caravan Disaster Support Specification, a portable command center and power supply for rapid response to natural disasters.

Mitsubishi showcased the Delica D:5 BLACK Edition, featuring a roof tent and black trim for a sense of purpose and post-apocalyptic strength. The Tokyo Auto Salon also hosted the winning sedan of the 2025 Tokyo International Custom Car Contest, the Aless Century Complete WL, which boasts a body kit and ultra-low suspension kit.

Isuzu's ELF Mio Cross Concept, a dinky work truck with military chic, was another standout. It features roll-down canvas sides and a massive array of LED lights above the cab. Panasonic Automotive also brought its WELL Cabin OFFMO, a multipurpose room designed to be rugged enough to set up anywhere, available in three different configurations.

The Tokyo Auto Salon, not to be confused with the Tokyo Motor Show, continues to push boundaries with its unique offerings. From compact campers to disaster response vehicles, and from winning sedans to rugged multipurpose rooms, this year's event did not disappoint. The inclusion of young female ambassadors, while controversial in its details, reflects the event's commitment to showcasing diversity in the automotive world.
